AN ACT Relating to preserving historic schools; and adding a new section to chapter 28A.47 RCW.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

          NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 28A.47 RCW  to read as follows:

          State allocations for modernization of school facilities of historic significance shall be eligible for the full dollar amount per square foot which the state board would allocate for new construction due to enrollment growth, multiplied by the state matching share under RCW 28A.47.803 if:

          (1) The school building is listed on the state register of historic places established under RCW 27.34.220 or the national register of historic places;

          (2) The school district's final design for the modernization project conforms to the standards for rehabilitation issued by the United States secretary of the interior;

          (3) The state's preservation officer has reviewed the school district's modernization proposal and design and has recommended approval to the state board; and

          (4) Other requirements established by the state board are met.

          Districts that received preliminary project approval from the state board before the effective date of this section shall not suffer any change in priority status or increased delay in receipt of state funding as a result of revising project plans so as to be eligible for state assistance computed under this section.
