AN ACT Relating to wildlife; and adding a new section to Title 77 RCW.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

        Sec. 1.  A new section is added to Title 77 RCW to read as follows:

          The director of game, or his or her successor, shall set aside not less than ten percent of the elk management units under the jurisdiction of the department of game, or its successor, in the state as reserves for the hunting of mature male elk only of trophy quality for trophy purposes.  The director shall issue special tags for trophy elk.  A trophy elk tag is required to hunt a trophy elk.  The tag fee shall be one hundred dollars.  A person who kills a trophy elk shall pay a trophy fee of five hundred dollars which fee shall be paid at a game check station.  The division of game shall maintain game check stations in close proximity to the elk reserves.

          Violation of this section is illegal possession or killing and is a violation of RCW 77.21.070.
