AN ACT Relating to sexual assault counseling; creating new sections; and making an appropriation.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.     The legislature finds that recent data suggests that adolescents who become pregnant and who keep their babies are likely to have experienced physical abuse, sexual abuse, or domestic violence in their childhood.  A survey of students in the school-based teen parent program will be conducted this year to identify teen parent students who are victims of sexual and physical abuse.  The legislature intends to provide counseling to assist abused and molested adolescents identified by the survey in dealing with the trauma of disclosure of victimization.

NEW SECTION.  Sec. 2.     The secretary of social and health services shall submit a final report on the project findings and evaluation to the appropriate committees of the house of representatives and the senate by December 31, 1988.

NEW SECTION.  Sec. 3.     There is appropriated from the general fund to the department of social and health services for the biennium ending June 30, 1989, the sum of ten thousand dollars, or so much thereof as may be necessary, for the department to contract with one agency in western Washington and one agency in eastern Washington to provide group and individual counseling to the forty-nine teen parent school programs.
