AN ACT Relating to  arrest of fugitives; and adding a new section to chapter 10.34 RCW.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

          NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 10.34 RCW to read as follows:

          Whenever a judge or magistrate of this state issues a warrant for the arrest of a person who has been charged with the commission of a crime and has fled from justice, or has been convicted of a crime and has escaped from confinement, or has broken the terms of bail, probation, or parole, the warrant issued shall command any peace officer to apprehend the named person wherever he or she may be found in this state.  A peace officer who apprehends such a person shall bring that person before the judge who issued the warrant or any other available judge, magistrate, or court.  If the person is apprehended in a county other than the county in which the warrant was issued, the apprehended person shall be extradited by the law enforcement authority of the state, county, city, or other political subdivision named on the warrant.  The judge or magistrate who issued the warrant shall charge the apprehended person with reimbursing the general fund of the state, county, city, or other political subdivision for travel expenses as allowed by rule of the office of financial management.
