AN ACT Relating to business and occupation tax credits for employers of volunteer fire fighters; adding a new section to chapter 82.04 RCW; and providing an effective date.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

          NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 82.04 RCW to read as follows:

          (1) A person shall be allowed a credit against the tax due under this chapter for the release from work with pay of employees who are active members of certified volunteer fire departments for volunteer fire-fighting activities.  The amount of the credit shall be one hundred dollars per employee released from work for eight hours up to a maximum per year per employee of one hundred dollars beginning July 1, 1989, and two hundred dollars beginning July 1, 1990.

          (2) Tax credits authorized under this section may be carried forward into subsequent reporting periods if the taxpayer does not have sufficient tax liability to use the credits.

          (3) Persons applying for tax credits under this section shall furnish such information and keep such records as the department may prescribe.

          (4) The department may adopt rules to implement this section.

 

          NEW SECTION.  Sec. 2.     This act shall take effect July 1, 1989.
