AN ACT Relating to state employees selected for jury duty; and adding a new section to chapter 41.04 RCW.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 41.04 RCW to read as follows:

          (1) The head of any agency shall excuse an employee selected for jury service under RCW 2.36.080 from work duties for the period of time during which the employee's service is required by the court.

          (2) Employees who are excused from their work duties under subsection (1) of this section shall receive full compensation and benefits, except mileage payments, from the agency as if the employee were engaged in normal work duties.  However, all compensation paid by the court to the employee under RCW 2.36.150, except mileage payments, shall be turned-over or credited to the agency.

          (3) No agency may require an employee to engage in work duties during any twenty-four hour period if adding the time engaged in work duties to the time served or to be served as a juror would result in the employee working more than eight hours in that twenty-four hour period.

          (4) For the purposes of this section, "agency" shall have the meaning set forth in RCW 41.06.020.
