BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.     The Washington state centennial celebration provides a unique opportunity to develop and strengthen ties with the state's Pacific rim neighbors.  It is in the interest of the state to develop centennial Pacific celebration themes and activities that provide cultural, educational, and economic benefits for all citizens.  It is the goal of the Washington centennial Pacific celebration to provide for development of economic and trade conferences, traveling art exhibits and performances, citizen participation activities, symposia events, and other related activities.

NEW SECTION.  Sec. 2.     The Pacific celebration fund is created in the custody of the state treasurer.  Moneys in the fund may be used exclusively in support of Washington centennial Pacific celebration activities.  Moneys in the fund shall be administered by the department of trade and economic development.  The fund is subject to the allotment procedure under chapter 43.88 RCW, but no appropriation is required for disbursements.

Moneys deposited in the fund may include donations, corporate contributions, earned income, the total of the investment earnings of the fund, and any other moneys appropriated to the fund by the legislature.  To the maximum extent feasible, income derived from Washington centennial Pacific celebration activities shall be deposited in the fund.

This section shall expire on June 30, 1990.  Any moneys remaining in the fund on that date shall be deposited in the state general fund.
