AN ACT Relating to voter registration for high school students; and adding a new section to chapter 28A.03 RCW.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

          NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 28A.03 RCW to read as follows:

          (1) The superintendent of public instruction, with the assistance of the secretary of state and the Washington association of county auditors, shall develop a voter registration and registration education program for high school students.  The superintendent of public instruction shall disseminate information on the program to all high schools in the state.       (2) The secretary of state shall design and provide a standard notice informing students of the availability of voter registration, which notice shall be posted in each high school.  The principal of each high school is encouraged to use the program developed under subsection (1) of this section to enhance voter registration by high school students.
