AN ACT Relating to smoking in schools; adding a new section to chapter 28A.87 RCW; and creating a new section.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

          NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.     The legislature recognizes that the use of tobacco is a serious health hazard for all persons, and is often a habit formed early in life.  For this reason, the legislature intends to create a smoke-free environment in all public schools in this state.

 

          NEW SECTION.  Sec. 2.  A new section is added to chapter 28A.87 RCW to read as follows:

          It is unlawful for any person to smoke or otherwise use tobacco or tobacco products on the grounds of any common school, whether inside or outside a building.  A violation of this section is a misdemeanor.
