                                   SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 8412

WHEREAS, The State Convention and Trade Center under chapter 67.40 RCW was authorized by the Legislature in 1982; and

          WHEREAS, The legislature authorized general obligation bonds and special excise taxes for the financing of the State Convention and Trade Center, which is currently under construction in Seattle; and

          WHEREAS, Recent reports indicate that the convention center may be in need of additional state financing;

          NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, By the Senate of the State of Washington, the House of Representatives concurring, That a joint select investigative committee be established to review the creation, funding, construction, and management of the State Convention and Trade Center.  The joint select investigative committee shall consist of two members appointed by the President of the Senate from the majority and minority caucuses of the Senate and two members appointed by the Speaker of the House of Representatives from the majority and minority caucuses of the House of Representatives, for a total of eight members.  The committee shall have the power to subpoena persons and require the production of documents; and

          BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the committee shall submit the results of its investigation, including recommendations, to the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives by January 1, 1988.
