BACKGROUND:

Occasionally, the same section of the RCW will be amended two or more times by separate bills in the same legislative session. If the individual amendatory bills do not take into account the changes being made in the other bills, a "double" (or sometimes triple) amendment results.  When the multiple amendments are not substantively inconsistent, they are easily reconciled by a rule of statutory construction provided in the RCW.  However, in the printed RCW the affected sections will appear in multiple versions. The appearance of these multiple versions of a single section sometimes causes confusion.

SUMMARY:

Several double amendments are reconciled and reenacted as single sections of the RCW.
