AS PASSED HOUSE FEBRUARY 3, 1989

BACKGROUND:

The state auditor is mandated by statute to require financial reports for each fiscal year from all local governments.  The reports must be prepared within 30 days of the close of each fiscal year.

SUMMARY:

The time is extended from 30 days, to 150 days, after the end of each fiscal year within which each local government must prepare a financial report for the state auditor.

Fiscal Note:      Not Requested.

House Committee ‑ Testified For:    Linda Sheler, State Auditors Office; and Stan Finkelstein, Association of Washington Cities.

House Committee - Testified Against:      None Presented.

House Committee - Testimony For:    No one can comply with the 30 day requirement.  The 150 day requirement is more realistic.  This change will not adversely affect the preparation of the comparative government statistics, nor audits of local governments.

House Committee - Testimony Against:      None Presented.
