AS REPORTED BY COMMITTEE ON HIGHER EDUCATION FEBRUARY 23, 1989

BACKGROUND:

In 1988, the legislature established a conditional scholarship program for nursing students attending accredited institutions of higher education.  The legislation included a definition of "institution of higher education."  Included in the definition were universities, community colleges, and vocational- technical schools.  Colleges were not included in the definition. That exclusion prevents some students attending Washington colleges from participating in the program.

SUMMARY:

The definition of "institution of higher education" in the Nursing Conditional Scholarship Program is revised to include "colleges."

Fiscal Note:      Not Requested.
