BACKGROUND:

Current law defines the Institutional Industries Board of Directors as an advisory group with a limited number of members all serving without compensation.  The Board was established to provide a broad range of expertise and input from the community in an attempt to facilitate the operation of the Institutional Industries.

The Board of Directors has suggested that several measures need to be taken to allow them to work on substantial issues, encourage meaningful participation, and increase the level of expertise and promote productivity.

SUMMARY:

Changes all references to "Institutional Industries" to "Correctional Industries."  Establishes the Correctional Industries Board of Directors as a policy-setting body for the work programs and clarifies the roles and responsibilities of the Board.  It re-defines the composition of the Institutional Industries Board of Directors and authorizes compensation.  Finally, it permits the Board to establish trade advisory or apprenticeship committees or to work with existing vocational educational education trade advisory or apprenticeship committees.
