AS PASSED HOUSE FEBRUARY 7, 1990

BACKGROUND:

The 1989 Legislature created an interim task force on the safety of students traveling to and from school.  The task force is to study student pedestrian safety, the need for edge stripping and curbing, and whether standards for sidewalks and other improvements in housing developments should be established.

The task force is to submit a final report to the Legislature by March 31, 1990, and is to expire on the same date.

The task force has met on several occasions, and subcommittees have been formed.  While progress has been made, it is unlikely that the group will be able to fully complete its assignments by March 31, 1990.

SUMMARY:

The due date for the final report of the interim task force on the safety of students traveling to school is extended from March 31, 1990, to October 31, 1990.  A bus driver and bus driver supervisor are added to the task force.  The expiration date of the task force also is extended to October 31, 1990.

Fiscal Note:      Requested January 4, 1990.
