AS PASSED HOUSE APRIL 6, 1989

BACKGROUND:

The Department of General Administration currently operates and maintains a state motor pool of approximately 1,000 vehicles.  The use of alternative fuels in some of these vehicles may decrease the emissions of harmful compounds and so contribute to a cleaner environment and the mitigation of global warming effects.  A test of nontraditional fuels under actual driving conditions could provide general information and set an example for the citizens of Washington.

SUMMARY:

The Department of General Administration shall consider performing tests to demonstrate the use of alternative fuels in state motor pool vehicles.  Also, the department and other state agencies shall seek to jointly purchase alternate fuel vehicles to attain a lower unit purchase price.
