AS REPORTED BY COMMITTEE ON APPROPRIATIONS APRIL 1, 1989

BACKGROUND:

Use of gasoline and diesel fuels in the transportation sector are a factor in global warming trends and air pollution.  Importation of foreign oil to provide these fuels contributes to the negative national trade balance.  Ethanol and methanol fuel blends provide an opportunity to reduce oil imports and improve air quality.  Also, use of state-produced agricultural feedstocks can help the state's economy.

SUMMARY:

The Department of Agriculture is directed to inventory and maintain a list of outlets that sell ethanol and methanol fuel blends and develop an information guide describing their availability and use.

CHANGES PROPOSED BY COMMITTEE ON APPROPRIATIONS:  The general fund-state appropriation of $5,000 is deleted.
