BACKGROUND:

 

Washington State currently has ten paid legal holidays for most public employees.  Legal holidays are also school holidays.  The twelfth of October is recognized as Columbus Day, but is not a legal or school holiday.

 

It has been suggested that special recognition be given to the thousands of people in Washington who have physical, mental, or sensory disabilities.

 

SUMMARY:

 

The second Thursday in June is to be recognized as Challenge Day in honor of individuals having physical, mental, or sensory disabilities.
