BACKGROUND:

 

The impact on airport area residents from jet aircraft exhaust emissions may pose significant adverse health effects.  Current practices, such as accelerating and prolonged idling periods prior to takeoff, should be examined in order to reduce these emissions.

 

SUMMARY:

 

The Department of Ecology shall conduct a study of jet aircraft exhaust emissions at airports.  The study components shall include:  potential adverse health effects; current or potential means to reduce or mitigate emissions; and need for monitoring.
