BACKGROUND:
A member of the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS) who was first employed prior to October 1, 1977, may receive up to five years' credit for military service if he or she completed 25 years of credited service. The military service may be interrupted service (i.e., the person was a member of PERS prior to entering military service) or uninterrupted service (the person first became a PERS member after military service).
SUMMARY:
After the effective date, a member of PERS who was first employed prior to October 1, 1977, shall receive credited service for one year of either interrupted or uninterrupted military service, during specified periods of time, upon completion of every five years of credited service. No more than five years of credited service for military service, however, may be earned.
