                            AS OF JANUARY 27, 1989

BACKGROUND:

It has been suggested that cities and counties should be given the option to exempt from building permit requirements the construction or alteration of single-family houses, garages, carports, sheds and agricultural buildings involving less than $1500 in total cost or fair market value.

SUMMARY:

Cities and counties are authorized to exempt from building permit requirements the construction or alteration of single- family houses, garages, carports, sheds and agricultural buildings where the total cost or fair market value of the construction or alteration is less than $1500.

The county assessor may place on the assessment rolls any property that is increased in value due to construction or alteration.  An issuing authority must transmit a copy of a permit for construction or alteration work over $500 to the county assessor.

Sections concerning the threshold for the requirement of building permits and the transmission of permits to the county assessor are repealed.
