BACKGROUND:

Port districts which operate airports serving more than 20 scheduled jet aircraft flights per day may undertake programs to alleviate and abate the impact of jet aircraft noise on areas surrounding the airport.  In developing a remedial program, the port may: acquire the property; provide transaction assistance; soundproof the structure; and/or provide mortgage insurance.

It has been suggested that renters, living in the impacted area, should be provided relocation assistance when soundproofing is not feasible.

SUMMARY:

Port districts are authorized to provide relocation assistance to renters living in airport noise corridors when soundproofing is not feasible.  The assistance may include the cost of moving a mobile home situated on leased property within the impacted area. The assistance may also include the difference between rent paid before relocation and the amount paid after relocation for up to one year.
