AS REPORTED BY COMMITTEE ON ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT & LABOR, FEBRUARY 24, 1989

BACKGROUND:

Contractors are currently required to include their contractor's license numbers in all advertising.  Some contractors complain that the cost to print the number is excessive and outweighs the benefit to the public of its inclusion.

SUMMARY:

Contractors are no longer required to include their registration numbers in advertisements, only the status of their registration.  Contractors advertising that they are registered would have to present proof of their registration number to the business providing such advertising.

EFFECT OF PROPOSED SUBSTITUTE:

Businesses providing advertising are no longer required to receive proof of registration prior to providing advertising.

Appropriation:    none

Revenue:    none

Fiscal Note:      none requested
