AS PASSED SENATE, MARCH 15, 1989
BACKGROUND:
Currently school districts with a student population of 2,000 students or more are designated in statute as first class school districts and school districts with fewer than 2,000 students are designated as second class school districts. Some concern has been expressed regarding the potential implied connotation of classifying some school districts "second class."
SUMMARY:
The designation of a school district with 2,000 or more students is changed from "first class district" to "large district." The designation of a school district with fewer than 2,000 students is changed from "second class district" to "small district." The applicable sections of the Revised Code of Washington are amended to reflect this change.
Appropriation: none
