BACKGROUND:

 

Commercial bottom trawling for food fish and shellfish can disturb the bottom of the water and negatively affect commercial and recreational fishing opportunities.

 

SUMMARY:

 

Commercial bottom trawling for food fish and shellfish is unlawful in all areas of the Hood Canal south of the mouth of the canal and in Puget Sound south of Everett. 

 

 

EFFECT OF PROPOSED SUBSTITUTE:

 

The central Puget Sound and the area east of Whidbey Island and Camano Island are included in the commercial bottom trawling ban.
