BACKGROUND:

 

Contractors are generally required to register with the Department of Labor and Industries, with certain exemptions created by statute.  One exemption is for those whose construction operations are only of a casual, minor, or inconsequential nature, and each such contract or undertaking is priced at $500 or less for materials and labor.  The $500 level was established by Section 2, Chapter 68, Laws of 1980.

 

SUMMARY:

 

The exemption from contractor registration for casual construction operations is increased from $500 to $1,500 per contract or undertaking.
