BACKGROUND:

 

Currently, agricultural workers, casual labor, and newspaper carriers are exempt from the state's industrial welfare statute.  This statute is intended to protect employees from conditions of labor which have a pernicious effect on their health.  These conditions include:  rest and meal periods; wages; and work standards.

 

SUMMARY:

 

The exemption for agricultural workers from industrial welfare provisions is removed.
