BACKGROUND:

 

Each community college in the state of Washington has as the policy-making body a board of trustees appointed by the Governor.  Currently, the Governor is required when making such appointments to give consideration to geographical exigencies and the interests of labor, industry, agriculture, the professions and ethnic groups.

 

SUMMARY:

 

In making appointments to community college boards of trustees, the Governor must provide for a balanced geographical distribution, a balance between public sector and private sector experience, and a balance between the interests of labor, industry, agriculture, the professions, and ethnic groups.
