BACKGROUND:

 

Certain persons are excluded from the requirements of the real estate licensing laws.  It is reported that certain people abuse the exemption created for attorneys by having clients grant them power of attorney to deal with real estate.

 

SUMMARY:

 

The exemption from real estate licensing laws for lawyers only applies to attorneys at law acting without compensation, as well as those acting in the performance of their duties.
