BACKGROUND:

 

Injured workers who have been totally disabled for a period of 13 consecutive weeks are entitled to special unemployment compensation benefits if they are not able to find employment following a prolonged period of temporary total disability.

 

There is no systematic method for informing the Department of Employment Security when an individual is temporarily totally disabled for this period.

 

SUMMARY:

 

The Department of Labor and Industries or self-insurer is required to notify the Department of Employment Security when a worker has received compensation for temporary total disability for a period of 12 consecutive weeks.  The notice must be given within five working days of the commencement of the 13th week.
