BACKGROUND:

 

The Public Works Board was established in 1985 within the Department of Community Development to provide loans to local governments for the financing of critical public works projects.  The public works projects that are eligible for loans include:  streets, roads, bridges, water systems, storm and sanitary sewage systems.

 

Under existing state statutes regarding places of detention, counties are required to construct and maintain juvenile detention facilities.

 

SUMMARY:

 

Juvenile detention facilities are added to the list of eligible projects that may receive loans or grants from the Public Works Board.
