BACKGROUND:

 

A member of the Washington State Patrol Retirement System (WSPRS) placed in disability status has the right to withdraw the contributions made by the member.  To regain eligibility for survivor's benefits, the officer can repay to the retirement fund the total amount that was refunded plus interest.  Officers retired on disability, however, are not allowed to withdraw their contributions paid to the retirement fund.

 

SUMMARY:

 

A member of WSPRS in disability status may no longer withdraw the member contributions to the retirement fund.

Effective Date:The bill contains an emergency clause and takes effect immediately.
