Providing for first aid instruction for school district employees.
Senate Committee on Education
Senate Hearing Date(s):March 1, 1989
Senate Staff:Susan Finkel (786-7483)
AS OF MARCH 1, 1989
BACKGROUND:
There is provision in law requiring school district employees to have training in first aid. It is suggested that requiring such training would contribute to the health and welfare of both students and employees in public schools.
SUMMARY:
Districts are required to provide all employees an opportunity once a year to receive training in first aid and accident prevention, including instruction in cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The Superintendent of Public Instruction, Educational Service Districts, and local school districts are encouraged to contract with local Red Cross offices to provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation classes for all district employees.
