                            AS OF FEBRUARY 16, 1989

BACKGROUND:

The Department of Transportation's rest areas provide citizens with excellent opportunities and facilities to stop and refresh while travelling.  Travelers often discard items at the rest areas instead of taking them in their vehicles.  Many of these items could be recycled if receptacles were available.

SUMMARY:

The Department of Transportation shall provide recycling receptacles at each of its rest areas located along the interstate or other state highways.  The department may enter into agreements to provide for the collection and transportation of the recyclable materials and other related activities.
