BACKGROUND:
The state of Washington is facing a "garbage crisis" and with it environmental and economic problems affecting all its citizens. The Joint Select Committee on Preferred Solid Waste Management pinpoints waste reduction and recycling as major components of its 1989 "Waste Not Washington Act."
The Department of Ecology has established a new recycling program element within its organizational structure -- a new Office of Waste Reduction, Recycling and Litter Control.
SUMMARY:
The Department of Ecology shall organize, coordinate and implement a statewide "Washington State Recycling Awareness Week" to promote recycling. Emphasis will be on recycling programs, legislation, trends and technologies and recognition of successful public and privately sponsored projects.
