BACKGROUND:

 

Last year, the Supreme Court amended the Justice Court Administrative Rules (JAR) to provide for the election of a presiding judge in counties having multiple court districts.  It is recommended that this recently adopted Supreme Court rule be placed into statute.

 

SUMMARY:

 

The Supreme Court is expressly authorized to adopt rules governing the selection of a presiding judge in counties having more than one district court district.  The Supreme Court may also, by rule, prescribe the presiding judge's duties.
