BACKGROUND:

 

Employers must insure their obligations under the industrial insurance laws through the state fund unless they can qualify as a self-insurer.

 

Many public employers are too small to qualify as self-insurers individually.  School districts, educational service districts and hospitals are authorized to form groups in order to qualify as self-insurers.

 

SUMMARY:

 

Cities and towns are added to the list of public employers that may form groups to qualify as self-insurers for industrial insurance purposes.
