BACKGROUND:
The Basic Education Act of 1977 includes "total program hour offering" requirements. Districts must make available to students a total educational program offering of 450 hours in kindergarten; 2,700 hours in grades 1-3; 2,970 hours in grades 4-6; 1,980 hours in grades 7-8; and 4,320 hours in grades 9-12.
SUMMARY:
The powers and duties of the State Board of Education relating to the "total program hour offering" requirement under the Basic Education Act are terminated on June 30, 1991. The powers and duties of the State Board of Education in relation to this provision of law are reviewed before termination. The "total program hour offering" section of the Basic Education Act is repealed effective June 30, 1992.
