BACKGROUND:
The Nuclear Waste Advisory Council was created in 1983. It consists of at least 15 members appointed by the Governor. The council is directed to advise the Nuclear Waste Board on public involvement issues involved in nuclear waste management.
Federal legislation in 1987 eliminated Hanford from consideration for the first high-level radioactive waste repository. This legislation also eliminated the federal funding previously available to fund advisory committee functions.
SUMMARY:
References to the Nuclear Waste Advisory Council are repealed and deleted.
