BACKGROUND:

 

Search and rescue operations for missing hunters and fishers result in extraordinary costs for sheriffs and for the missing parties who are liable for reimbursement of costs.

 

SUMMARY:

 

The search and rescue fund is created and funded through a 25 cent surcharge on hunting and fishing licenses to offset extraordinary costs incurred by sheriffs and local jurisdictions.
