                            AS OF JANUARY 10, 1990

BACKGROUND:

Hunters may hunt with hounds subject to the rules established by the Wildlife Commission.  There is concern that certain hound hunting practices do not contribute to a wise use of the wildlife resource.

SUMMARY:

Hounds may not be used to hunt game animals from March 15 to August 1 of each year.  Hound hunters shall not intentionally allow hounds to pursue game animals during closed seasons.  Electrical equipment shall not be used during hound hunting.  Hounds shall not be allowed to run free unless a season is open to the taking of game animals.

Penalties are established which require confiscation of hounds, prohibition of hunting for two years following conviction, and gross misdemeanor sanctions.

A second violation of hound hunting rules results in a loss of hound hunting privileges.
