BACKGROUND:

 

The legislative authority of a county may impose an excise tax on the use of telephone access lines in an amount not to exceed 50 cents per month on each line.

 

SUMMARY:

 

The limitation of 50 cents per month is removed.  The legislative authority of a county may impose an excise tax on the use of telephone access lines in an amount determined necessary to operate an emergency services communication system.

 

 

EFFECT OF PROPOSED SUBSTITUTE:

 

The bill is limited to counties whose population is less than 95,000.
