BACKGROUND:

 

The Department of Agriculture Enabling Act limits to six the number of assistant directors the Director of Agriculture can appoint.  State civil service law allows exemptions for only six assistant directors as well.  The director has reorganized his department to create eight assistant directors and the LEAP Committee has reviewed this new organizational structure.

 

SUMMARY:

 

The restriction of only six assistant directors in the Department of Agriculture Enabling Act is removed.  State civil service law is modified allowing exemptions for up to eight assistant directors.

 

 

EFFECT OF PROPOSED SUBSTITUTE:

 

The Department of Agriculture Enabling Act would limit to eight the number of assistant directors the Department of Agriculture can appoint.
