BACKGROUND:

 

The State Apprenticeship Council, established under RCW 49,04, is charged with the development of standards for apprenticeship agreements and approval of agreements consistent with those standards.  The council is composed of seven members, each serving three year terms.  The Director of the Department of Labor and Industries appoints three employer members and three employee members.  The Governor appoints one public member, who is subject to confirmation by the Senate.

 

SUMMARY:

 

The number of public members appointed by the Governor to the State Apprenticeship Council is increased to three, increasing the total membership of the council to nine.  Reference to the Commission for Vocational Education, which was terminated in 1986, is removed from the statute.
