BACKGROUND:

 

The Lewis and Clark Bridge which connects Longview, Washington and Rainier, Oregon was built in 1929.

 

With economic development and growth, traffic on the bridge has become a major problem.

 

SUMMARY:

 

The Washington State Transportation Commission, in conjunction with local governments and the affected metropolitan planning organizations, is directed to study the feasibility of constructing a parallel bridge.  The results of this study shall be reported to the Legislative Transportation Committee by December 1, 1990.

 

 

EFFECT OF PROPOSED SUBSTITUTE:

 

The study will also include a traffic survey of the Hood River Toll Bridge.
