BACKGROUND:

 

Veterinary medicine in the state of Washington is regulated by the Veterinary Board of Governors.  The Board of Governors is a six- member board consisting of five licensed veterinarians and one lay member.

 

The duties of the board include:  preparing and administering the qualification examinations for veterinary licensing; prescribing requirements for veterinary medical facilities; fixing the minimum standards for continuing veterinary medical education; and providing disciplinary action for violations.

 

SUMMARY:

 

A Veterinary Disciplinary Board is created.  The board is comprised of five licensed veterinarians and one lay member.

 

The disciplinary authority of the Veterinary Board of Governors is transferred to the Disciplinary Board.  The Board of Governors shall continue to be responsible for preparing and administering the qualification examinations for veterinary licensing.
