AN ACT Relating to school principals; and adding new sections to chapter 28A.67 RCW.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

          NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.     A school principal or vice principal is authorized to enter a student's locker if he or she has reasonable grounds to believe or suspect that the search will yield evidence of the student's violation of the law or school rules.

 

          NEW SECTION.  Sec. 2.     The scope of the search will be considered proper where:

          (1) The methods used are reasonably related to the objectives of the search; and

          (2) Are not excessively intrusive in light of the age and sex of the student and the nature of the suspected infraction.

 

          NEW SECTION.  Sec. 3.     Sections 1 and 2 of this act are each added to chapter 28A.67 RCW.
