AN ACT Relating to the University of Washington DNA typing laboratory; and adding a new section to chapter 28B.20 RCW.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

          NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 28B.20 RCW to read as follows:

          There is created in the University of Washington school of medicine a DNA laboratory system which is authorized to:

          (1) Provide laboratory services for the purpose of analyzing and scientifically handling any physical evidence using deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) relating to any crime;

          (2) Provide assistance to state and local prosecutors and law enforcement officials in the development of DNA evidence for presentation in court and to provide supporting testimony in court on DNA evidentiary matters.
