AN ACT Relating to saving electric energy through planting of shade trees; adding a new section to chapter 35.92 RCW; adding a new section to chapter 54.16 RCW; and adding a new section to chapter 80.28 RCW.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:
NEW SECTION. Sec. 1. A new section is added to chapter 35.92 RCW to read as follows:
A city or town engaged in the generation, sale, or distribution of electric energy is authorized to plant or provide financial assistance to residents for planting trees that will cast summertime shade onto residential structures. This authorization is limited to residential structures in locations where the thirty year annual average cooling degree days exceed three hundred fifty. Financial assistance is limited to twenty-five dollars per tree up to a limit of three trees per residence. Actual planting of trees by the city or town for this purpose is limited to three trees per residence.
