AN ACT Relating to speed limits in construction zones; and adding a new section to chapter 46.61 RCW.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

NEW SECTION. Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 46.61 RCW to read as follows:

          It is a prima facie violation of the basic speed rule, RCW 46.61.400, for a person to operate a vehicle in excess of the posted speed limit on a portion of a highway where officers or employees of the agency having jurisdiction over that highway, or a contractor of the agency or employees of the contractor, are working on the roadway or within the right of way so close to the roadway as to be endangered by passing traffic.  This section applies only when appropriate signs indicating the limits of the restricted zone and the speed limit applicable in it are posted by the agency within four hundred feet of each end of the zone.
